Chickenshed, Kensington and Chelsea, theatre initiative that is changing lives
LifeBook™ are delighted to donate a LifeBook autobiography for the Chickenshed Grand Auction to raise money and support your pioneering work through theatre and music!
The company had decided it would donate a LifeBook to Chickenshed for the grand auction at the charity’s gala dinner last week. I was fortunate enough to be the chosen LifeBook representative and arrived at 7pm at the stunning venue One Marylebone in London, where the event was to be held. All the auction prize details had been sent across well in advance, so all I needed to do was to be there, enjoy the evening and answer any questions that might arise regarding the LifeBook experience. Once the auction was over, I could then meet the winning bidder and present them with the welcome pack that explains the whole project to them.
What a privilege it was to attend this event
What a privilege it was to attend this event. The entertainment was billed in the programme as ‘An evening with Chickenshed’ and I was looking forward with great anticipation to the performances to come. Between each course of the meal, there was either a group performance of a song-and-dance routine or a reading of inspirational writings the kids had penned. Some of the stories brought tears to my eyes, as kids described battles with choices – the wrong path into gangland violence or life with Chickenshed, staying focused and correct while participating in regular theatre workshops. A tough decision when you are a young teenager.
A wonderful story for her own LifeBook one day?
There was another participant, who, from her wheelchair, brought the house to tears when describing how, at the time of her first arriving at Chickenshed, she had felt huge, insurmountable challenges because of her disability. Chickenshed gave her the confidence to participate and, as a result, she achieved success in her goals, so much so that she is now able to coach others. Her gratitude was palpable, but, more than that, the audience awarded her a standing ovation as she left the platform. She must have felt amazing. A wonderful story for her own LifeBook one day perhaps?
